movies …. exams …. and nothing else

August 30, 2005

exams over. actually with just two exams it does not take much time. so now im watching movies, posting on blogs etc, while the rest of the junta is busy trying to understand data mining or some weird looking math that i wouldnt touch with a mile long pole.

so after freeing up at 12:30 on the first day with 2.5 glorious days of holidays what do you do???

——————————————————————————

1. BC
2. Warcraft
3. Quake
4. Whose line
5. Movies

option 1 was difficult to do as everyone else is busy studying

option 2 was worthwhile but people got hungry and left the lab (:grr:)

option 3 gets boring after a while, i mean for how long can you play against bots in quake

option 4 seen too much WLIIA in the last few days

so option 5 it is then. (there is no CS coz no one was playing CS)

see, i hadn’t seen (m)any movies since I came back. something seemed to be missing.

so i decided to make up for all past sins.

——————————————————————————

saw the following movies

1. The Interpretor
2. Coach Carter
3. Requeim for a dream

The Intepretor

Ok action film. Nothing great, nothing bad. Nicole Kidman’s hairdo is awesome. She definately looks the hottest I’ve ever seen her look. any comments on the spelling of interpretor are not appreciated

Coach Carter

Good Finding Forrestor type story. Typical inspirational film. Good performances, especially by Samuel L. Jackson. The story is about how a coach kinda transforms the lives of a basketball team …

Requiem for a dream

Seems to be a movie about drug addiction. A lot of ppl have seen this and said they liked it, and it was awesome and blah blah blah. It seemed to be progressing along nicely until I woke up and discovered it was 0830 in the morning. No further comments on the film

PS – Lindsay Lohan SUCKS big time at singing. Please Please PLease do not listen to her sing ever.

how new words are added to english

August 23, 2005

this is a very short post. im expermineting with the idea of having many short posts or fewer longer posts

post begins here

1. you are in a state which cannot be described by english

2. the only way to describe it (i know i am contradicting myself, but its been such a day) is by using more than one word

3. the words can easily be combined and the resulting word is easy to pronounce

4. a new word is created by joining the two words

EXAMPLE

I am feeling like blah (frustrated + bored + pissed) and I have a lot of work to do.

Hence blah + work = blurk

PS – if u ask me why *ah + wo* = u then go fudge urselves. thats the way it sounds right.

hitchhiking …

August 20, 2005

a lot has happened since the last post.

1. The Hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy – got the books from arun. brilliant writing. seriously this must be read, just for the way douglas adams uses language.

My doctor says that I have a malformed public-duty gland and a natural deficiency in moral fibre and that I am therefore excused from saving universes.

The knack of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.

go here to further appreciate the book. otherwise just do a google search

2. there was a no computer’s day. well, all computer’s, router’s etc were supposed to be shut down so that students would take part in cultural activities. “A day without the network???” we exclaimed, and started stocking up on movies, looking for decks of cards etc, to pass the time. Later we found out that it was all voluntary. well, the rest is …. (hint: counter ******)

3. freshers – took place. (isnt that a weird sentence?). nice function, some nice skits. Mr and Ms Fresher sucked ASS.

4. have seen gigabytes of “Whose Line is It Anyway”. It still rocks. Seriously, its the best comedy show ever.

5. Booshi’s b’day was celebrated in a subdued kinda way.

6. a ug3 team lost to ug2 :shame: . (course the circumstances kinda stretched it but still …..)

world of warcraft

August 12, 2005

ok this post is about 1-2 weeks late.

Finally got my hands on World of Warcraft. One of the most anticipated MMORPG’s of all time. (MMORPG – Massively Multiplayer Online Roll Playing Game). Assuming you know what a RPG is, a MMORPG is an extension of it played with tens of thousands, maybe even millions of people online together. Other examples include – Everquest, Neverwinter Nights etc. Course the game had arrived a while back but we never tried it due to lack of people. Even now I was sceptical but we (me, trappi, sham, aziz, tharwani etc) decided to give it a shot anyway.

So first up, about the game

Its set in the warcraft universe. You can either be a member of the Alliance (Dwarves, Gnomes, Humans, NE) or a member of the Horde (Orc, Tauren, Undead and one more). Within these you can either be a rogue, warrior etc … Each of these character classes has various attributes, so if you are a rogue you can be nice and stealthy, a warrior can go front and do melee damage. Depending on your character class you are spawned at a particular location in the wow universe. And believe me the universe is HUGE. Of course at later levels you can always travel using gryphon riders, ships etc …

Gameplay involves gaining levels. Levels are what seem to count. To gain levels you have to get experience which can be got by either completeing quests or creeping. Of course that isnt all. There is inventory i.e. weapons, armour, potions etc. All these you can pick up from creeps, make on your own or buy from the markets (for gold). To earn money you can take up a job (blacksmith, miner, fisherman etc) or just creep. Basically the gameplay is supposed to be great. There are spells, magic items, abilities and all sorts of nice stuff.

Graphics are reasonably good. The water, the trees etc look really good. The characters are ok, but dont look really great. The textures are nice though. Sound is not what I expected. I mean it doesnt give the correct feel at times.

Now the experience of playing it …

Problem Number 1.
There were just 4-5 of us who were ready to play the game

Problem Number 2.
We had a cracked copy of the wow game. So we could not play it properly on the internet along with the millions of others (besided u need a credit card)

Problem Number 3.
The server provided with the game doesnt seem to be great. It isnt very stable either

Problem Number 4.
Sadly we made Shamanths pc the server again. Bad Idea. What is needed is a dedicated server. Anyway maybe when I get new Pc’s in the lab i will get a 24×7 server for it.

All in all, another few thousand hours of gaming ruined due to lack of infrastructure :( (

frustration, despondency and science

August 7, 2005

life sux ass …

seriously

well lets start with the high point. took an ITWS lab. the surprising part of this was that ppl were actually listening when i was speaking. hmmm

neways met a the most frustoo and despo guy ever. actually met him on the second / third day the sem began. he’s so vella that he ahs time to read 150 pages of bad and incomprehensible handwriting

seems like there is a lot more work than there should be. surprising. life sux …

fresher’s got postponed / cancelled (dont know exactly what as of now) due to rain. weirdly enuf the food also sucked. really pisses people off that.

anyway while browsing new scientist .com found the following stuff

1. no time travel paradox

2. white holes, the opposite of black holes …

3. “Why we ALL need pornography?” – this was apparently member’s only content so if anyone has an account there (yeah u need to pay) please send me the full text of the article.

apparently its friendship day now. was informed of it by 12 IM’s on yahoo each saying happy friendship day. the question here is why do we have a friendship day to celebrate whatever is celebrated on friendship day??? anyway thats for another post

oh and one more thing, FC4 rocks.

and python rocks.

and netbeans is the nicest IDE i’ve ever seen. (i havent seen many IDE’s)
