something is seriously wrong

this year the weather has been absolutely screwed up

there has been too much rain. way too much rain. as a matter of fact so much rain that I (I in bold as I suck at creative stuff) came up with a poem

rain, rain motherfucking rain …
go move your ass some place else away
i am so bloody pissed
at waking up to a grey, depressing dreary day

wind, abe-oo wind dont friggin stop blowing
blow, blow, blow these goddamn clouds away
blow them away so that all the children
can come out and play

I dun like going to class
I hate going to class on a rainy day
so rain go away
before you wash my attendence away

not only is the rain the problem, its the fkin amount it rained in one day. bombay was flooded.

then there are these cowdung type hurricanes that keep popping up arbidly all over the place. there was katrina, then this storm which hit AP (which i am led to believe is the culprit of the recent spell of rain) and now there seems to be another hurricane bobbing up in the Gulf of Mexico wanting to say its two bits worth.

Fable

Lionhead and microsoft teamed up to make this really cool RPG. Its a proper RPG with all the regular stuff and some extras. Lionhead had earlier made a really really awesome game called “Black and White”. Sadly very few (actually zero) people who I know have played the game.

The story goes like this – You are a boy whose parents are killed. As an orphan you are inducted into the guild of heroes and receive training to be a hero. The game progresses with a number of quests. Each quest gives you rewards like gold, experience etc.

Gold can be used to buy stuff like better weapons, armour etc. Experience is used to become stronger, learn more spells etc. There are basically three types of experience. You can either improve your strength (your hitpoints and stuff), you agility (your stealth, accuracy with ranged weapons etc) or your will (magic stuff like spells, mana capacity etc). Then you can use these to go around killing enemies.

Of course thats not all. Each act you perform in the world can have either a good or an evil inclination. So killing a farmboy can be evil, whereas saving the life of some traders is good. Being good or evil determines what you look like (if you are really evil you have horns and stuff). Thats some really cool special effects there (wtf did i write that weird sentence). Also it teaches you different expressions. So if you are a really good hero you cant go around making obscene gestures and all.

And the gestures are really nice, theres a _||_ gesture, a kiss my ass gesture.
Gestures also influence relationships. Yeah, you can have relationships with characters. you can fall in love, get married, have sex, buy a house, beat up your wife and get divorced (the whole nine yards as some would say). Not only that you can get married to a guy as well.

There are also some comic parts to the game. The inscriptions on gravestones, the dialogues people say, the chicken kicking contests etc add a very nice dimension to the gameplay.

Spells are the really awesome part of the game. By the time I was done I was an evil wizard who cast level 6 inferno. Now that is an insanely cool looking spell that does shitload of damage. For more details look at the screenshot.

Graphics are nice, and the music is ok. The cinematics are in the form of murals and really well done.

All in all a nice game which will keep you busy for some 15 hours.

PS – learnt a very important skill of life – how to lie in project status report. have a feeling i will be needing this later (if you know what i mean)

PS1 – 14.6 upgraded. new config celeron 2.6GHZ, 256 MB RAM, 40 GB HDD. hopefully it wont get f’d in the A courtesy of mysql

wlan ki ….

finally wlan is back

it died a few days back. and life w/o lan sux ass. basic problem with wlan = it just stops working. especially in OBH (where i live).

i mean it will work fine in nbh / other less fortunate areas of the college but not here.

apparently a media access converter burnt up (or so they say)

anyway the more important question is how long till wlan dies again ???

course the one good thing that came out of all of this is a lot of time was spent in the lab. lab rox for AC, quake, warcraft etc etc etc …

finally saw sarkar. nice film. abhishek bacchan screws it up completely. Al Pacino in the godfather was way way better.

PS – get the . it updates ur bookmarks to an ftp / (some other stuff i cant remember) site whenever u close firefox and downloads from their again. hence u can syncronize and backup ur bookmarks. its really nice.

the decline of cz??

Times are changing …

Last year around this time we had just got the wireless LAN cards. We were dying to play something. It ended up to be CS 1.5 (we (the then ug2) downgraded to cz much later) [hey: I like CS more than CZ]

So each day, each night the routine would be like, someone create cz. Usually it’d be shamanth or tipo. And then we’d play. We’d play a helluva lot of it.

Sadly nowadays there are very few people playing. It seems like the average number of people playing cz has gone down. Earlier their used to be 2 servers full to the brim with all of us playing, waiting in queue (with auto-retry on, and going arnd asking the server to kick). Nowadays that feeling seems to be gone. Even the tourney is lacklustre.

CZ seems to have lost its charm, the feeling of the initial 4 v 4’s in Assault, Estate is gone.

The midlife with 16 ppl in one server well thats gone too.

The peak of CZ, the time after felicity with the intense 5 v 5’s, 6 v 6’s has gone.

So is the end of the era???

I seriously hope not

So people lets all get back to some nice, high quality cz, the type after felicity. The kind with the unbelievable headshots, with brilliant sniping, with last second defusals, with awesome teamwork and friggin insane adrenaline. All we need is some co-ordination and proper teams in a proper 5v5 / 6v6. (adjectives in bold for clarity )

PS – google desktop search is really nice. I particularly like the sidebar. really cool. the only problem is that it stays on top of quake so it sucks
