the 5000th mile
It was a gloomy Saturday afternoon. It had been raining on and off like it usually did. The motorway was crowded with people going from A to B and B to C and C to D. Traffic ameliorated the differences between the trucks, the minivans, the suvs and the sedans. An advertisement explaining why People’s Bank was the best bet for your new home loan came on. 4999. A minute passed. 5000 announced the tachometer with no ceremony. The world did not miss a heartbeat. No one held their collective breath.
